SPRING TRENDS
Saturday, March 28, 2009
Judith Clark
Yes spring has arrived in more ways than one. The new trends discovered at the furniture show in Las Vegas showed an introduction to spring colors of the past. Remember the 80’s and pastels? Well they are back. Like the song says, “everything old is new again.” Do realize however that when we revisit design concept from the past it is always reconfigured in an entirely different way.

With the new pastels, expect to see pinks and corals along with purple, browns and gray. There will be an influence of wild flowers and small prints. Not the small prints we saw in the 80’s, but new and exciting patterns. The past 10 years we have seen the patterns on fabrics growing to huge sizes. We are now seeing fabrics with a much smaller scale. This isn’t a trend for the future; this is what we are showing right now.

The other interesting thing is hunter green is back. That is a green that is more inspired by redwood and fir trees. Hunter goes more to the blue side of green and less to the yellow as we have seen of late.

Look for lacquer wood furniture in white, black or red. We are also seeing the combination of shine and matt finishes combined together in jacquard patterns. Will animal skins ever go out of style? No and they certainly aren’t going out now. You will see these looks in the form of cut velvets and lazar cut leathers that look like velvet.
